Carrie Wong, MD FRCSC
Dr. Carrie Wong graduated from residency in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1999 from the University of Alberta. Shortly thereafter, she started practice at Burnaby General Hospital with a view to work in a full-service community hospital.
With a colleague from residency, she started the minimally invasive gynaecology program at Burnaby Hospital, performed the first laparoscopic hysterectomies in Burnaby and expanded to teach residents and other surgeons. Dr. Wong’s philosophy about new technology and innovations for women’s health remains the same. She attended many courses in advancing laparoscopic techniques which assured that her foundation was strong before moving forward. Similarly, Dr. Wong adopted MonaLisa Touch. After reviewing similarly promoted options, attending international conferences on Menopause management, and attending the necessary training, she pleased to offer this alternative option to menopausal women for atrophic vaginitis and lichen sclerosis.
After 19 years in practice and delivering thousands of babies, Dr. Wong is now shifting her focus to Women’s Health and a Gynaecology-oriented practice.
She is a full-time physician and full-time mom of 2 daughters, who are keeping her on her toes.
Providing a Women’s Health focused practice has enabled Dr. Wong to pay clear and complete attention to her gynaecology patients, without the constant little voice reminding her that there is a person in labour and that she may be called out at any moment. It also offers her the opportunity to cheer on her daughters at their games without being called out for a delivery, or having to leave a post-it sticker on their gear bags, telling them to ask another parent to take them home. Every moment should be dedicated to that moment, whether it be talking to your patient, playing with your child, or just being part of this amazing life.
